Reuse Cartridge With Carbon Offset

We summarize representative questions about the various questions of customers.

What is the amount of CO2 emissions offset per a cartridge?

It is specified as CO2 emissions corresponding to the amount of electricity consumed by the printer until one reuse cartridge is used up, and this is taken as the CO2 emissions offset.Of course, because the number of printable sheets per reuse cartridge and the amount of power used by the printer are different, the offset amount varies depending on the reuse cartridge, but we offset the average CO 2 emission of 6 kg per one cartridge.

It will be approximately 12 kg if you use two bottles a year ,and there is CO 2 reduction effect equivalent to annual CO 2 absorption per beech tree. (11 kg; trial calculation by the Forestry Research Institute, Independent Administrative Institution)

After calculating the number of days of use of one cartridge and estimating the electricity usage at printing and standby of the printer during the use period, we calculate the CO2 emissions associated with the electricity usage of the printer.

【Note1】Concept based on TEC value (TEC stands for "Typical Electricity Consumption", standards to conform to the "International Energy Star Program" of the Energy Conservation Center of Japan)

【Note2】Catalog value of each printer manufacturer

【Note3】Inernal Investigation

【Note4】Set the opening hours of the day as 10 hours. On the premise that the printer was turned off during off hours.

【Note5】Default value of the power company's emission factor for FY 2006 released by the Ministry of the Environment. There are cases where the number of the power company in the area where the cartridge is used may be lower than the default value, but it is unified by the default value.

What kind of emission rights do you offset?

Emission credits acquired by us is CER (Certified Emission Reduction Amount) issued from the CDM project that the United Nations has reviewed and approved under the Kyoto Protocol. CER is an emission right that contributes to economic growth and reduction of CO2 emissions in developing countries, purchased from Sumitomo Corporation.

The outline of the CDM project is as follows.
■Project Name:Biomass Power Generation
■Contents of the project:Construction of a biomass power station that reuses rice grains discarded as a power generation fuel at Brazilian rice mills The generated electricity of the biomass power station reduces the stone greenhouse gas by about 57,000 t-CO2 per year by replacing the electricity generated by power plants that emit large quantities of CO 2, such as coal-fired power plants, and by suppressing the release of methane gas released to the atmosphere due to the disposal of rice balls
■UN CDM project approval number:231
Details of the project are published on the UN website

Can We deduct it as my reduction amount?

We can not deduct the amount of reduction from our emissions.
The reuse cartridge with carbon offset is not transferred to the purchased customer.
In place of our customers, we transfer CO2 emissions equivalent to printer power consumption accompanying use of cartridges free of charge to the Japanese government. It is counted as Japan's Kyoto Protocol reduction goal.

Can we describe it in the CSR report?

We can not deduct the amount of reduction from our emissions but it is possible to describe the cooperation with the Kyoto Protocol reduction targets of Japan in the CSR report etc. The amount of reduction that can be stated by the customer is the sum of the offset amount by the use of the reuse cartridge with offset by the customer.

Since the offset amount differs depending on the type of cartridge, please confirm the transfer certificate enclosed with the reuse cartridge.

In addition, if you return the cartridge without using it to the end, enclose the transfer certificate and ask that you do not list the offset amount in your CSR report etc.

Is the procurement cost of emissions credits added to products?

We do not add procurement costs for emissions credits. We procure emission credits using our part of sales revenues at our share.

Is the certificate issued?

A transfer certificate certifying transfer of emissions credits to the Japanese government is included in the reuse cartridge with carbon offset.
In addition, Sumitomo Corporation is acting on behalf of us for the free transfer of the emission rights purchased by the Company to the Japanese government.
Certificates whose emissions credits have been transferred from Sumitomo Corporation to the account of the Japanese government can be viewed on our website.

How do you manage the offset amount?

We manage the shipment quantity and the offset quantity with the product code unique to the reuse cartridge with carbon offset. Also, we calculate the monthly shipment volume of reuse cartridges with carbon offset, and we announce the offset amount based on the shipment amount of this month on our website.
